Bio

Ellen LaMora is a Hartford based violinist and educator currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Violin Performance from The Hartt School, where she studies under Anton Miller and is a recipient of the Isabel Stubblebine Violin Scholarship. At The Hartt School, Ellen performs regularly with The Hartt Symphony Orchestra as well as Foot in the Door contemporary ensemble. In 2023 Ellen graduated magna cum laude from the University of Oregon (UO) with dual Bachelor of Music degrees in Violin performance and Music Education. Her principal teachers include Fritz Gearhart, Anthea Kreston, and Sunmi Chang. While in Oregon, she was a member of the UO Symphony orchestra, Opera Orchestra, The Salem Philharmonia, and numerous chamber groups performing on both violin and viola.

In Eugene, Ellen was a performer and member of Eugene Difficult Music Ensemble (EDME), a non-profit dedicated to performing new and experimental music in Oregon. She actively contributed to the organization and performance of many large scale and grant funded projects. Projects include EDME’s yearly New Music Festival featuring internationally selected composers and guest artists, and Stories from the Unhoused, a composition and choreographed dance developed from interviews with members of the local unhoused community. These works sparked a lasting commitment to performing new music and making it accessible to local communities.

As an educator, Ellen works with students in many settings such as large ensembles, chamber groups, and individual lessons. She draws on her background in music education to create a thoughtful, and individualized approach by balancing a strong technical foundation with expression and creativity. She believes in meeting students where they are while challenging them to grow. It is important to Ellen that student’s interests are incorporated into lessons alongside standard repertoire. Whether coaching sectionals, chamber rehearsals, or teaching one on one, Ellen strives to cultivate creativity, confidence, and a lifelong love of music.
